Scripture: Matthew 5:8

“In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.” MSG

The story is told of Justin. Each morning three-year-old Justin’s mother pinned a bath towel to the back of his shoulders. Immediately in his young imaginative mind the towel became a thrilling bright red cape. His PJ’s turned a brilliant imaginary blue and a huge red “S” in a yellow background appeared on his chest.

Justin, in an instant became Superman. Outfitted each day in his “cape,” Justin’s days were packed with adventure and daring escapades. He was invincible. The bad guys always lost and Justin posing as Superman always won.

Two years passed and it was time for mom to enroll Justin in kindergarten class. During the course of the get-acquainted interview, the teacher asked Justin his name.

“Superman, mam” he answered politely and without pause.

The teacher smiled, casting an appreciative glance at his mother, and asked again, “Your real name, please.”

Again, without hesitation Justin answered, “Superman.”

Realizing the situation demanded more authority, the teacher closed her eyes for a moment, then in a stern voice, said, “I will have to have your real name for the records before I can properly enroll you.”

Sensing he’d have to play straight with the teacher, Justin slid his eyes around the room, hunched closer to her while digging in his pocket to take out a pair of glasses. He put the glasses on — as he did — he answered in a voice hushed with conspiracy, “Clark Kent, mam.”

When we reach glory and it is time to be identified — who will you say you are?

Prayer: Father help me unashamedly build my identity on Jesus as He bubbles out of me with the fountain life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
