Scripture: John 14:2-3

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” NKJV

The Christian Evangelist was known for challenging Christians. He used creative illustrations of how faith can offer solutions in a world of complexity. He tells a story about being in a church where he was asked to pray for a man who had cancer. The Evangelist prayed boldly for the man’s healing. That next week he got a telephone call from the man’s wife. She said, “You prayed for my husband. He had cancer.” The Evangelist thought when he heard the man’s wife use the past tense verb that his cancer had been cured by the Lord. But before he could think much about it she said, “He died.” The Evangelist felt terrible that the man had died on his watch.

But she continued, “Don’t feel bad. When my husband walked into that church Sunday, to hear you speak, he was filled with anger, frustration and unforgiveness. He knew he was going to be dead in a short period of time, and he hated God. He was 58 years old and he wanted to see his children and grandchildren grow up. He was angry that this all-powerful God didn’t take away his sickness and heal him. He would lay in bed and curse God. The more his anger grew towards God — the more miserable he was to everybody around him. It was an awful thing to be in his presence.

But the lady continued, “After you prayed for him — a peace had come over him and a joy had come into him. The last few days we had were the best days of our lives. We sang together. We laughed. We read Scripture to one another. We prayed. Oh, they were wonderful days. And I called to thank you for laying your hands on him and praying for healing.”

And then she said something incredibly profound. She said, “He wasn’t cured, but he was healed.”

Prayer: Father thank you for healing in lives we can’t even imagine. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
