Scripture: Psalm 111:1

“God of Grace, this God of Love. He gave food to those who fear him, He remembered to keep his ancient promise. He proved to his people that he could do what he said” MSG

Judas Thomas Didymus or as we know him — Doubting Thomas — was one of the original twelve apostles of Christ. Thomas was not present when the other disciples saw Jesus after His resurrection. They told Thomas, “We have seen the Lord.” Thomas responded. “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

The story is told of a polar bear cub. One day the cub approached his mother and asked, “Mom, am I a polar bear?” “Of course you are,” mom replied with a big smile. “OK then,” said the cub, and paddled off. Later that day, he found his dad out fishing for dinner.

“Dad, am I a polar bear?” “Sure you are my son!” said his dad. I’m a Polar Bear and your mom is a Polar Bear and that makes you 100% Polar Bear. “OK then,” said the cub and ran off to play with his friends.

The next day, the cub asked the question again — then the next day and again the next day.

“Are you and mom Polar Bears? You are? Well then does that make me a Polar Bear? Pure 100% Polar Bear?” After a week of all these questions his parents couldn’t stand it any longer. “You are driving us crazy with your questions! You are a polar bear! Why do you keep asking?”

The cub looked up with forlorn eyes, “Because I’m FREEZING!”

And then there’s doubt. Sometimes we go to our Father, and say, “Am I really your child? Are you really my Father? At times I don’t act much like you. And I’m not sure if I’m the kind of person you would want to call your child. And sometimes things don’t go well for me. I experience pain, frustration and anger — is that okay for one of your children?”

Today, millions of people stubbornly want to witness miracles or see Jesus in person before they will believe in him, but Jesus just asks us to come to him in faith. We have the Bible with eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ life to strengthen our faith. Miracle upon miracle is documented and proven to be true. Yet doubt still pops up.

Jesus never scolded Thomas for his doubt. In fact, Jesus invited Thomas to touch his wounds and see for himself.

Today if you have doubt — now is a good time to challenge Jesus for a touch. Go ahead — what do you have to lose? He did it for Thomas, one of His trusted twelve, He did it for me, and He is ready and willing to do it for you.

Prayer: Father thank you for erasing all doubt from those who ask. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
