The media spends more of its time losing its mind over Israel than doing anything resembling journalism. Currently the media, foreign and domestic, is losing its mind over Ayelet Shaked.
Ayelet Shaked is Israel’s new Justice Minister. She was a former infantry instructor and computer scientist.
She’s a critic of judicial activism, which has gotten really bad in Israel with the Supreme Court acting as an unelected government with supreme power over everything, and that drives the undemocratic domestic left nuts.
But now the international press is also losing its mind over Ayelet Shaked.
Foreign Policy calls her “The new face of Israel’s Hard Right” and shrieks that “Ayelet Shaked makes Benjamin Netanyahu look like a liberal.”
Which to be fair, isn’t that hard.
The Washington Post’s Ishaan Tharoor quotes the violently racist hate site MondoWeiss, where you can read things like “I do not consider myself an anti-Semite, but I can understand why some are” or “Israel is no normal state, but one governed by the forging of Zionist system-logic into a Satanic ideology” to attack Ayelet Shaked as an “extremist”.
Ishaan Tharoor thinks that Ayelet Shaked is an extremist but that defending anti-Semitism and accusing Israel of being Satanic isn’t.
Foreign Policy and the London Times both quote the claim by Turkey’s Islamist tyrant Erdogan that compared Shaked to Hitler. The London Times even headlines its piece “New star of cabinet likened to Hitler”.
I suppose we could find someone who compares the London Times to Hitler, but it wouldn’t be a very fair headline.
They don’t bother to mention that…
1. Erdogan has suppressed his opposition by sending them to prison and has tens of thousands of political prisoner
2. That he’s a secret backer of ISIS’ genocide in order to massacre Kurds.
3. And his own people widely compare him to Hitler.
“Erdogan Hitler Comparison” is actually one of the first Google search results for that name. And there are a ton of pictures.
99 percent of this stuff is coming out of Turkey. And Erdogan, despite this, has a habit of comparing every Israel leader to Hitler. Even though Mein Kampf remains a bestseller in Turkey.
But the same publications that have supported Erdogan and covered up his domestic crimes, including the use of chemical weapons against Kurds, want you to think that he’s a serious leader whose accusation that a short thirty-something Jewish woman is Hitler should be taken seriously.
Fine. Let’s meet the new Hitler. Here’s an interview with her.
Hi Ayelet, what would you like to drink?
Right. Just like Hitler.
